At Potter Creek Ranch we focus primarily on training horses for cowhorse events and ranch work. We also prepare horses for sales, tune up older horses, give lessons, and start young horses for any discipline.

We feel that the start on every horse is very important and that the first 30 to 90 days is very similar regardless of the discipline.

Each horse receives a similar but tailored program in which each animal can best reach their potential. Results will vary but the majority of all horses that complete one month of training will be ready to go do a job inside or outside the arena.

Horses in our 30 to 90 day program will have a great start on the fundamental basics (walk, trot, lope, turn-around, stop, back-up, pick-up correct leads, and collect up readily at a walk and trot).

Trainer Biography: Travis Jordan was born and raised west of Rimbey, Alberta.  He grew up working horses and cattle on his family’s ranch.

Travis got an early start with horses training his first horse “Button” at age 10.  Training ranch horses led to an interest in show horses (primarily cutting horses and reiners).

Travis has spent several years doing custom cattle work for area farms and ranches and working for local auction markets processing and penning cattle on horseback.  Long days in the saddle have led to an appreciation for good using horses; horses that show their sand while working unruly cattle, in bad weather and often on poor footing.

As a competitor, Travis has won the Canadian National High School Rodeo Association Cutting FinalsAlberta Provincial High School Rodeo Finals and represented Alberta at the American Finals in Gillette, Wyoming.  He has also won and placed at many Alberta and regional events in reining, cutting and ranch horse competitions.

Travis’ goal as a horseman is to "make an average horse good and a good horse great."

He believes a horse should be broke, have a job and do his or her job correctly. He also believes
it needs to be fun for the rider and the horse.

On cattle, he wants a horse to get to the point where they can think on their own and not rely on the rider.  This also keeps the horse from becoming too "mechanical" in the cow work.  A horse that has been trained to "think" will respond quicker and make fewer mistakes.

Travis now resides and trains in Rimbey, AB along with his wife Sarah and new baby son Logan.
